We just received some tasty Guatemala Antigua fresh off the roast yesterday... $12.25 for all retail coffee and worth every penny! We still have a couple bags of the Rwanda and Columbia left if you prefer but you better hurry.

The Rwanda is deliciously bright, sweet and smooth coffee, somewhat on the mellow side with hints of raisins, roasted on the 30th. I also have the Columbia, roasted on the 30th, which is a meaty son of a bitch. It has a thick mouth feel, smoky almost leathery qualities and is a bit higher in acidity but so rich and yummy. The judges are still out on the Guatemala but we'll keep you posted...

Welcome to our first coffee cupping post. This will be a rough and ready version of what should become a more formal affair as we become more familiar with the process and the language. If the stuff we say here doesn't make much sense at first fret not... we are still learning too. Argo Sons' latest Columbia is dark and smokey yet bright and citrusy at the same time, with an amazingly heavy body that really coats your mouth. Kinda reminds me of those chocolate oranges that you whack on the counter. The beans smell like molasses and caramel when you bust open the bag and take that first whiff.

Whaddaya say, Allen?

I have to agree with most of what has already been said about this new Columbian. I got a huge amount caramel and sugary aromas up front with a slight hint of pipe tobacco in the dry whiffs. This is a big balanced full-bodied coffee with no confusion about what it is. What it lacks in fruity notes it more than makes up for with body, balance and presence. Can't wait to put this one through the Aeropress!

This poor lady found herself without a body but was lucky enough to find a home in our coffee shop. Don't worry, she really likes Argo Sons espresso blend so things aren't as bad for her as they might otherwise seem.

This unfortunate chap has found himself in geosynchronous orbit directly over Green Room Coffee & Espresso Bar. With any luck in a few hundred years he'll make landfall in our parking lot. Keep your chin up cadet! Sir.

These ferocious fellas need a coffee break from the rough and ready lifestyle of being some kind of space rocket guys. Pull up to the bar guys and get an Aeropress coffee, first one is on us if you leave the helmets on!

Big Brotha Greg and the GR Company

Music Go Round is where we call home. Loud, full of dudes, slightly disorganized but we love it. It's like your cool older brothers basement bedroom minus the racy mags. Music Go Round is a magical place full of talented and not so talented musicians always ready to put on a show for people in their general proximity, whether they like it or not.

As seen here, Greg, would be that cool older brother. He's always ready with some nugget of wisdom, a funny joke or just a bearded smile. Thanks Greg, for being so awesome... even though you refuse to drink coffee and drink only coke cola.

Now Colin, on the other hand. That's a whole different story. To be continued...

Belly Up To The Bar!

Green Room Coffee now has inviting new bar seating, which you may belly up to while enjoying a double espresso, slow brew AeroPress coffee or traditional cappuccino (plus a lot of other really great coffee drinks). Along with swanky bar seating we have added a new espresso machine. We get so excited about making hand crafted coffee drinks, we rarely sleep and therefore just sit around and drink more coffee. Yowza! What a way to live.
Just look at these fine young gents enjoying a fresh cup of Argo Sons Coffee (the Columbia), slow brewed to perfection using the AeroPress. I think they are also looking at youtube videos of Hulk Hogan and Rick Derringer. Ladies, seriously, we need some diversity here, come hang out!

New Year, New Rig, New Hours

Have you ever had so much coffee that the world seemed to slow down around you as you zipped through space like some kind of super fast cheetah or something? Where you could feel the hair growing on your arms because of the hyperaware superconsciousness you'd gained from your enlightened consumption? Where you could actually feel your frontal lobes throbbing with over stimulation and had to remind yourself constantly that you should not, in fact, just see how much further you could take it, maybe set a world record or something? That's sort of what we did this week.

Seriously though, in our efforts to master our new machine and perfect our technique, we have had entirely too much coffee. And we aren't quite finished yet.

Assuming that we survive the next couple of days, we want to show you what we've learned. We'll be opening the doors Monday morning, the 16th of January and we will be giving away double espressos to anyone who asks, for free, for serious. For free... no kidding.

And, because we no longer need to sleep, starting Monday we will be extending our hours. Monday through Friday we will be open 7am to 7pm.

I literally just wrote this all in 1 second....

Professional Development

Hello! We will be closing up shop for a few days next week... January 9th-15th to work on our kung fu. We are installing our new espresso machine (Nuova Simonelli, not too shabby) and putting the final touches on our renovations. It is going to be amazing!

We are incredibly excited about where we've gone so far and can't wait to complete our transformation. Come see us on the 16th and help us break in our new machine and get something nice to drink!

For us, 2011 was a great year. We grew, we learned new things about ourselves and we came to fully embrace our coffee roots. In the first few months of 2012 we will finish our renovations, install our new espresso machine and resume our research on laser aided coffee extraction and/or delivery. It's going to be a big year!

The future of coffee is tasting good...

Deep huh? No one knows for sure whether or not Frank Zappa was talking about coffee in general or Green Room Coffee specifically here... tempus edax rerum... but we like to think he was referencing coffee brewing methods.

So, moving along...

At it's best coffee is illuminating, delicious and chemically inspiring. It should bring out the best version of ourselves as it rescues us from the terrifying, or the mundane, or the hauntingly strange dreams of our sleeping mind. It holds at bay the brutal ennui that threatens to demoralize and betray us throughout the day. And, if we're lucky enough to know people who take brewing it seriously, every cup should be a reward.

Something as important as coffee deserves special attention, which is why we make every cup to order. We don't really like drip brewed coffee so we don't make it. Luckily it is the 21st century so we have other options. Contrary to popular opinion coffee brewing has advanced well beyond the drab insulated walls of the coffee murdering drip pot.

We think its time to abandon burnt, over-extracted, under-loved coffee. Come rediscover coffee with us. Let us wash away the taste of a thousand bad cups of coffee with one exceedingly fresh, perfectly extracted sip!

Green Room Coffee has undergone a makeover in the last month or so. We've done some painting, cleaned out a few corners and updated our seating arrangements a bit. We think it's getting pretty cozy in here and hopefully this trend will continue throughout December.

New Chair!

We've turned down the volume on the food situation and turned the coffee up to 11. We're still doing Aeropress coffee by the cup (that won't change anytime soon) but we're also going to be trying our hand at Chemex and pourover's in the coming months. Ask and ye shall receive. World domination is close at hand!

Upon request we will place a
bag over this evil clown.

Come in, sit, listen to people try out instruments, watch whatever we put on the TV machine, drink coffee with us and rejoice!
